Keely’s interest in genealogy was sparked by her grandparents’ golden wedding party when she was 17, when she met several relatives for the first time and started drawing a family tree to understand where everyone fitted in.

She eventually turned her hobby into a profession, running her own genealogy business for six years. She joined Anglia Research in 2023.

 

I used to start my networking 60 seconds as ‘I hunt dead people… (pause for laugh). I track them down on the internet, and when I’ve found them, I pin them to a tree’. Which works for doing family trees, but possibly not for the website. Maybe ‘I help people claim their share of an inheritance they may never have known about?’

Building a family tree is like a cross between a jigsaw puzzle and a detective story, although there is usually less murder involved in my office work.
