Prior to her retirement in 2006, Carol worked at the General Register Office in Southport as a casework manager considering and authorising applications for corrections to be made to birth and death registrations, sometimes many years after the registration was completed. This required careful examination of all evidence submitted and consideration of the relevant legislation governing the registration of births and deaths in England and Wales.
When Anglia Research advertised a part-time vacancy for an information liaison officer the following year, it was ideally suited to Carol's previous experience. She has been returning to the General Register Office to collect certificates ordered by our researchers each weekday since then.
